This is a guitar tutorial lesson on how to play Mandatory Suicide by Slayer. For this track you’ll need to do some dual harmonies in the opening riff. The riff is dark and eclectic, utilizing octave notes and 4ths to create that dark eerie sounds that Slayer is known so well for. The teamwork of Jeff Hannemann and Kerry King do not disappoint. There are a few down picking patterns that will add stamina to your routine. If the tempo to is hard to keep throughout the track, set your metronome to a slower pace and slowly increase the b.p.m. Over time, you’ll build enough strength in you picking hand where you increase the tempo even further than the 156 b.p.m. that the song is set to.
Included is the tablature that you can find right here: Mandatory Suicide transcribed by J.Shadows
To get a close resemblance to the original tone you’ll need the following:
- A tight down picking techniques which Slayer is well known for. This is of the utmost importance, to make the tone sound good.
- Marshall JCM 800 2203 helps, but there are a lot of VST’s you can find that will provide a great distortion tone
Plugin, play and enjoy.
